Dan DiCicco, of Loping Wolf Flute Circle, in California, has been diagnosed with a form of Bladder Cancer called "Transitional Cell Cardinoma."  Dan is scheduled for a PET Scan on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, in order to determine the particular stage, which will be used as a guide to determine positive treatments designed to prolong his life.  Treatments could include removing his bladder and other infected organs and building him a new urine-collecting bag to hang off his belt - a minor sacrifice to prolong his life.  He expects treatments to put him in challenging circumstances for maybe six months, and he will attempt to carry on with his daily normal activities as best he can.  But for now, all this is speculative pending the PET scan.  Please send Dan your Flute Prayers, for the most non-invasive treatment and for recovery, health and healing!  We're with you Dan!

Please send your Flute Prayers to Kootenai Tribal Elder Amelia Trice's husband, David, her four sons, two daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of the Kootenai Tribal members (currently 155).  Amelia Trice (Kootenai) was born on April 26, 1936, and died on July 21, 2011 at Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane, WA, after a long bout with cancer.  She was buried at St. Michael's Mission Cemetary following a Roman Catholic funeral at Bonners Ferry.  She will be remembered for her courage and vision.  Kootenai tribal elder Amelia Trice made national headlines in 1974 when she declared a nonviolent war and led her tiny band in what is now known as the last Indian war against the U.S. government.  The standoff at Bonners Ferry led to federal recognition and the creation of a 12.5-acre reservation for the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho and improvements to housing and health. The event also set the stage for tribal growth over the years.  Amelia Trice was known as a “strong tribal woman” whose example has been passed to the younger generation.  rice is especially known for keeping Kootenai culture and beliefs alive.  For a powerful film about Amelia Trice and the Kootenai Tribe, entitled "Idaho's Forgotten War," see http://www.rienterprises.com/riproductions/ifw/ordering.html

Please send your Flute Prayers to Wayne McCleskey, our fearless leader of the PNW Gathering at Vashon Island, WA, and dear friend, that his upcoming surgical procedure (10/4/2010) goes smoothly and efficiently. Wayne will have at least two cardiac bypass procedures done, and may have a total of 4. One artery has enough problems that they think they can do a bypass but it won't solve every problem there. The other areas look easier to repair with a good chance of success. Wayne and his wife, Robin, like and respect the surgical team and are happy to have them doing this procedure. It is common enough that the doctors have had lots of practice. It is also very hard on the body. Wayne will be on the heart lung machine while the surgery is done and there are possible complications from that procedure. He'll come out of the OR directly to the ICU while still on a ventilator. When he stabilizes for a few hours they will wake him up and take him off the ventilator. Then he'll be declared home free. After one day in the ICU he should be transferred to a regular hospital room. He will begin to walk, shower and get dressed to prepare for going home. IRobin will be with him in the hospital and when he comes home. He has been told to expect to go back to work a month after surgery. We love you Wayne, and are sending healing music your way!

Please send your flute prayers to the folks at Stellar Flutes. They had a nasty storm on the 14th of December were hit hard by falling trees due to severe wind storms up in Shelton, WA.  While they slept peacefully down below in our residential building, the office/shop building and our two cars sustained sever damage.  The 135’ x 24” tree which was near the road hit the bathroom part of the building.  The top 35’of the tree broke off and crashed between the two buildings.  They are still able to use all the facilities but are at the mercy of tarps until they can find someone to repair the poor building.  The bathroom is a train wreck but is still functional as a bathroom.  Their residence was not harmed. Everyone is safe; however, the shop and two vehicles were damaged.  Despite the damages the shop is functional.

It is with sadness that we hear of the death of Chief Klia, hereditary Chief of the Hoh Tribe.  Chief Klia died on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 due to injuries sustained in a car collision on Saturday, December 24th.  Chief Klia served on the Hoh Tribal Council for many years and presided at numerous tribal events, including the August 2002 potlatch during the Tribal Paddle Journey, when as many as 45 tribal canoes visited the Hoh Reservation.  Chief Klia loved to carve canoes and taught many people of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe how to handle a canoe.  Several of our Flute Circle members knew Chief Klia and were involved in paddle journeys.  Chief Klia was also involved in health education and health fairs for the Hoh Tribe.  Please send your flute prayers to his family and Tribe.
